How should I understand “too much to hope”? The fairest woman in the world if my brother could be believed. Her hair is silver-gold, her eyes are amethysts. Was it too much to hope that for once Euron had told it true? Perhaps. Like as not, the girl would prove to be some pock-faced slattern with teats slapping against her knees ... (A Dance with Dragons, novel) Context: the speaker’s brother, Euron, asked the speaker to fetch him the “fairest woman” from across the world. But the speaker doubted if Euron had told it true — he thought the woman might be ugly. Hi. Could you please tell me how I should understand the phrase “too much to hope”? Thank you.

it means 'would it be too optimistic to think that Euron was telling the truth'. He would like to think that he is telling the truth but knows he may be disappointed.

I guess he is wondering if it is too unrealistic that Euron for once is telling the truth.
