Hey man :) I'm native italian, so I can just tell you what my students normally struggle with. In my experience two common difficulties are the genders (expecially for people coming from non-romance languages) and the double letters...for one reason or another they have 50% of chances of writing a word correctly and they always get it wrong :P good luck with your learning Nicola
