Hello could you help me please? Hello By another confusing preposition problem, I am stuck. The example is : The little child counted eight on his fingers. I think one should have used with or by(for imbuing the meaning of a tool) not on. I know count verb is usually followed by the preposition on like for instance, I count on you which is a different usage of count in the former one so I am wondering why one used that proposition. Please help me out of this problem. Thank you in advance. Have a good one!😊

We us to "count on" both with to "count on someone" (trust) or to "count on fingers" (counting the number of your fingers).

It is idiomatic to use "on" when talking about using fingers to count.
