"That Marylou is some poet." from the book, Slugs in Love.

Yeah. She wrote some poems for her love but in this situation where a slug found one of her poem and said, it should have been "a poet" or "a good poet" or something like "That Marylou has some poet (ability)" not is. The phrase "some poet" is colloquial and means that the writer thinks that Marylou is a very good poet. It is generally used when the writer admires the person or thing.  "He sure is some tennis player!"
