Kim
In Spanish, do I use the verb aparecer to ask how someone looks with a moustache? In English we say 'looks' but in Spanish I'm assuming I would need to say 'appears.' is this correct?

Hello Kim! I think you mean "parecer" , am I right? I think your example and translation with "looks" would be: como me queda el bigote? O que te parece mi bigote? In that case, "looks" does not have a literal translation into Spanish. I hope I understood your question

APARECER: appear, show up PARECER: look/seem like VER: see MIRAR: look VERSE: look/seem (for others) SOME EXAMPLES ON THESE CONFUSING VERBS: "IT LOOKS/SEEMS LIKE IT'S GONNA RAIN": parece que va a llover "HEY YOU'RE LOOKING GOOD TODAY": hey, ¡te ves bien hoy! "SHE LOOKS LIKE A MODEL": parece una modelo "LOOK!, THERE'S JIMMY!": ¡mira, ahí está Jimmy! "I CAN'T SEE YOU, WHERE ARE YOU?": no te veo, ¿dónde estás? "ANA FINALLY SHOWED UP": Ana finalmente apareció. ~llegó* HOPE THIS HELPS!

Remember this aparecer and parecer are two different verbs aparecer means appear, so, PARECER means how something or someone looks like, but in a comparative way. If I took your example, the correct way to ask how someone looks with a moustache you can ask: ¿Cómo me veo con bigote? In English that means, how do I look with moustache? The expression "cómo me veo" or "cómo te ves" is used to ask someone how looks like. I hope I've helped.

You can also say, ¿Como me veo con bigote?
