Using "with" in Chinese. I'm confused how to use "with" in Chinese. Do you use a different word depending on the context? For example: I went with Mary to the store. I want to chat with Chinese people to practice. I opened it with a can opener. For the first sentence I would just use 一起去, but for the others I get stuck at with and am unable to communicate my meaning.

Go with Mary, chat with Chinese people, 'with' here actually is 'and', Mary and I went to the store. Those Chinese people and I are going to have some talk. So you could use '和'. e.g. 我想和中国朋友聊天. 我和Mary一起去商场. With a can opener, 'with' here is: Using a can opener, I openend it. So you use 用here. 用is a verb. e.g.我用剪刀把信封拆开.

first of all i wanna say Thank U : L actually I dn't think there are any chinese words that have totally the same meaning of with in the English cuz mostly we just use some different kinds of verbs and conjunction as the substitute of "with" n the way we use "with" here is very flexible just like you did in Canada.
