my wife answered while she looked at herself in the mirror.这是原句,但我觉得这样说也可以my wife answered while she was looking at herself in the mirror.这两句有什么不同吗?谢谢!

To a native English speaker, the two sentences would describe the same events as they occurred in time - there would be no difference in how they were understood.
Some strict standards of grammar would hold that the first sentence is more correct than the second, because the tenses match exactly. However (in my opinion) no reasonable English speaker would seriously fault anybody who used either form.
