ok, well both of people can be right. and actually 김보리 can be 금보리 as well. if it's 금보리, it could mean colden barley. and other ways, it could be whatever really. like Mitong said, when korean make names traditionally we use '字典(Han Dinasty character dictionary: different from chinese dictionary these days, it's old type of characters, even it includes some characters which were used only in Korea). so if you really want to figure that out, you have to ask her what's her name's character for it. but I would go for 금보리 which means golden barley, so many korean people have pure korean charactor name as well. hope it could be helpful. have a good nite.

This question is basically very similar to the one posed by another member as given in: www.italki.com/answers/question/56644.htm I thus suggest the followings. First, the traditional Chinese characters (hanja) of a hangeul character may be looked up from some Korean online dictionary. I use NAVER, available at: dic.naver.com . By putting a typical hangeul into the entry of "hanja dictionary" (한자사전, with an icon showing the hanja character 漢), its relevant hanja characters will then be given. After that, we may use the wiki(dic)tionary, available at: en.wiktionary.org/wiki/Wiktionary:Main_Page , to look for the relevant English meanings of a typical hanja. So, by taking your name, 김보리 , and by considering solely the hanja characters that has positive and significant meanings, the following information is found. (I refer to the wikitionary for the relevant English meanings, in order to avoid unnecessary discrepancy.) 김: 金, which containing meanings of "gold (Au)", "money" (Japanese uses it in this sense), "metal (in general)", and as a surname. 보: 1) 保, which containing meanings of "protect", "safeguard", "defend", and "care". 2) 寶, which containing meanings of "treasure", "jewel", and "precious / rare". 3) 步, which containing meanings of "step / pace", and "walk / stroll". 4) 普, which containing meanings of "universal", "general", and "widespread". 리: 1) 里, which containing meanings of "a unit of distance (equal to about a third of a mile)", "village", "lane", and as a surname. 2) 理, which containing meanings of "reason", "logic", "manage", and as a surname (in China). 3) 利, which containing meanings of "gains", "advantage", "profit", and "merit". 4) 李, which containing meanings of "plum", "judge", and as a surname [e.g. surname of emperor in both tang (唐/당) dynasty in China and jo-seon (조선) dynasty in Korea]. Finally, for further hangeul names, please kindly refer yourself through the above quoted webpages. 안녕!
