A Protestant or Catholic atheist Anybody can explain what a Protestant or Catholic atheist is supposed to mean in *plain* English? I googled it and found the Wikipedia article about "Christian atheism". It says "Christian Atheism is an ideology in which the God of Christianity is rejected but the moral teachings of Jesus are followed."...................... What on earth is that supposed to mean? That's completely nonsense, isn't it?

well, I think it makes sense. Basically, you don't believe in the existence of a god, but you DO believe in the values, tradition, and the moral teachings of Jesus, Jesus being, for them, a kind of "model", example, of what a Christian should be, one who helps others, etc... You do know that religion isn't all about believing in God, right? Well, a so-called "christian atheist" (the name in itself is an oxymoron, I agree) accepts the "cultural" aspect of Christianism, but rejects the 'holy' side to it, meaning they probably don't believe in heaven or hell, etc. That's what I understood, I'm not saying it's correct, I have to admit it's the first time I hear about that. edit: haha, I agree with Peachey.

It's to do with culture. A muslim atheist is one with muslim culture but has a lack of belief in God. I am a Christian Atheist, I have the Christian culture and celebrate Christmas. But I don't think God exists at all, and I hate the oppression that Christianity and islam spread.

It sounds like a very weird concept to me... but I'll have a try. I guess it means that while you don't believe there is a Christian god (or any other god for that matter), you still agree with the moral principles of behaviour: forgiveness, turning the other cheek, helping people out, sacrificing your own wants for the benefit of others, and loving one another. Basically. Hmmmmm calling it 'Christian Atheism' still sounds self-contradictory.
