"Relevant to somebody/something" - уместный, относящийся к, напрямую связанный с.
Do you have the relevant experience? - У Вас есть соответствующий опыт?
Her novel is still relevant today. - Ее роман все еще актуален сегодня.
These comments are not directly relevant to this enquiry. - "Эти комментарии прямо не относятся к вопросу.
"A relevant question" - вопрос, относящийся к делу, связанный с чем-либо
"Appropriate" - подходящий, соответствующий чему-либо.
"An appropriate method, measure" - подходящий метод, подходящая мера
Jeans are not appropriate for a formal party. - Джинсы не подходят для формальной вечеринки.
The book was written in a style appropriate to the age of the children. - Книга была написана стилем. который подходил для детей этого возраста.

relevant = important; has meaning
appropriate = fitting; suitable

relevant means directly relating to the subject or problem being discussed.
appropriate means suitable for a particular time, situation or purpose.
