Hi Mike, nice to meet you here 😃
What a great question!
What I can advise based on my 5yr+ experiences in multi-culture environment as as a Chinese female are as below:
1. Be mindful that Chinese people generally do NOT appreciate a direct approach in communication, especially when it's criticism or sth negative. For example, if you intend to correct someone's English pronunciation, you can give that person a little compliment first. Present yourself as a approachable and friendly teacher is very important for Chinese students.
2. We don't directly say NO but we do hesitate. It's critical to pick this signal as we are being taught to NOT reject others. Rejections are often seen as impolite or even rude in Chinese cultures (well, actually in many other Asian cultures as well).
3.This one might be very obvious and global: people can be quite sensitive about their ages, including men. So...if you are surprised by someone's real age, don't act like you do lol...unless this person looks way younger.
Most importantly, be sincere and open-minded (yes, there I said it). Understand that every country is different, and each system is different as well. In the end, what matters the most is that we all want be a better self.
Good luck, Mike. Hope my advice can somehow help you. 😄
