How you may understand the mening of the verb "to finger" here?
as I guess, by all and large it may have following senses:
- to touch or feel something with your finger;
- to play or toy with a finger;
- to indicate;
- to run up in finger-like extensions.
Some blokes are riding on a bus and viewing a landscape, which passes by. The sentence reads:
"All too soon great cranes and masts finger the skyline as we turn off the main road."
So, arecranes and masts "touching" the landscape line in the distance (as the main line may be also farther, beyond masts and cranes, in a view of an open view of the sea), or are they "indicating" the end of the line; or are they "running" along the main landscape line as we can watch by the effect of parallax? Or are they just sticking out from the line like some vertical fingers?

It sounds like it's supposed to mean "touch". Wouldn't recommend using this verb anyway in every day life.
