Can anyone tell me how common is knowledge of International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA)? I had a video call with choir students at Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro in Brasil 🇧🇷. Almost all of them knew IPA, but I wonder if this was partly because they were singers and singers are more commonly expected to learn IPA.
