Language learning needs structure, humour, and the right kind of obsession. I bring all three. I’ve taught Dutch and French in secondary school, and German and Dutch in adult education. I’ve been tutoring since I was a student myself — in law, languages, and study skills. My lessons are conversation-based, flexible, and adapted to your needs. I won’t give you a step-by-step textbook course — instead, I’ll coach you through real-life communication, at your level and pace. I don’t teach Dutch from scratch, but if you already speak a little, I’ll help you build fluency, confidence, and clarity. Because language is a skill — and you only learn it by using it.

I loved helping exchange students from Japan and the U.S. with their German studies, and that sparked my love for teaching. Living in Taiwan, I had the chance to teach both German and English to students of all ages, including teachers! Each experience has shaped my teaching style and made me even more excited to share my knowledge with you.

Speaking is the best way to learn a language, so my lessons usually center around having an actual conversation in German, but I will also give you grammar instructions and help you with pronunciation as and when necessary. If you struggle with any particular grammar topic, we can of course also dedicate a whole lesson to that. Generally I'm happy to adapt myself to your needs and preferences. While we talk, I make extensive notes in a google document, I write down new vocabulary with example sentences, grammar instructions, corrections, etc. You'll have access to this document during and after the classes.

I teach German in an easy and fun way. I teach conversations without complex conjugation tables, and am happy to provide helpful examples for unfamiliar vocabulary. Daher war es mir schon immer wichtig meine Muttersprache in Wort und Schrift zu beherrschen und mich mit anderen über Stunden zu unterhalten und dabei das Sprachniveau stets zu erhöhen. Ich liebe die deutsche Sprache und habe zum Beispiel als Ausbilder bei der Bundeswehr, beim Training von Berufskraftfahrern oder als Leiter der Jugendfeuerwehr immer darauf geachtet, daß sowohl Rechtschreibung, Grammatik als auch Aussprache korrekt sind. Auch privat ist mir dies jeden Tag ein großes Anliegen und dies vermittle ich ruhig, anschaulich, mit Beispielen und vor allem mit Freude.
