Ricardo has been such an amazing teacher! I hadn't spoken Portuguese in 10 years and after just 2 months of lessons I am beginning to speak again with some confidence. He does a really great job at walking you through the formal elements of Portuguese while teaching you how to speak like a local. Ricardo always encourages me to try to express something even if I don't yet have the language. He cultivates a really safe and supportive environment where you feel ok making mistakes as a student! It's all part of the process. I look forward to taking many more months of lessons with him. I can't recommend him as a tutor enough!

I started lessons with Ricardo two months ago as a complete beginner and it has been great. His lessons are very interactive and multi-faceted (grammar, vocab, oral comprehension, “real life” vs. formal Portuguese, pronunciation tips, PDF material/lessons and audio recordings via e-mail) and there are a lot of opportunities to practice during the lesson. He also explains really well the small nuances in pronunciation– for me, this was one of the most intimidating parts of learning Portuguese, but now I feel comfortable with reading (slowly) and when listening, I can decipher how a word might be spelled, which helps a lot with comprehension. Ricardo obviously has a lot of experience and passion for teaching, and I’m really impressed with the course and with the fact that he seems to constantly be updating and creating material.
