My name is Rakeb Debalkew. I am a 30 years old Ethiopian language enthusiast. I was born and raised here in Ethiopia, Addis Ababa. Amharic is my first language and my Native. I was raised in a democratic and free family that let me reflect my own color and identity. I see my parents and siblings in me, and they are the shiniest part of my identity. If any one asks me to answer the question "Who are you?" beyond my name, I would say that I am my family. I am all the wonderful teachers I had, all the friends I embarked on. I am confident, I am courageous, I am enthusiastic and I am bold and forward. There is not a single thing I regret and I love that about myself. I truly value what I have!Minha atuação como professor
I was raised in a family of teachers, both my Father and Mother were teachers. Some say that teaching is in my blood. On the first two to three years of my life after graduating from university, the first profession I have embarked on was teaching Spoken English. I remember my first class, it should have been terrifying but genuinely speaking my first class seemed like my hundredth. I stepped in a took control of the class room that is filled with students that were twice my age. I think nothing can better explain what I am like as a teacher than this first class story. I intend on making my Amharic lessons as interactive as possible. But the beginning shall be a bit strict and focused so that my students are in line with the major grammatical rules of Amharic. Once the basics are captured, then every singly class shall start with a power point lesson of something major grammatically, then a listening exercise of the lesson of the day, a speaking exercise of the lesson of the day. I would give out the "Words of the day" and "Expression of the days" where I will provide five words and expressions each day for my students. Language TeacherThis was one of my first ever centers to experience teaching language. My students ranged from children to adults from many parts of the country including Eritrea. It was an enriching experience and it was proof that I am a natural born teacher.

Language TeacherOfficially the first step towards the world of language started here at Global tongue. It was an amazing experience. I literally well up as I think of the students I had in this institute. It was more than a teaching experience, we built a family that supported one another towards confidence & ability. I taught students ranging from children, teenagers & adults in private as well as group classes. One would think my journey would be a bit bumpy at the beginning but started bright and persisted.
2018 - 2020
Language TeacherIn Vm Ware language center, I have experienced an amazing level of connection and bond with my private and group class students. I took the lead on improving the interactive nature of the classrooms, setting lesson plans, preparing monthly events and the preparation and distribution of monthly newsletter with in the center. I especially worked with students that travel for business to other parts of the world and students that are up for interviews and upgrades at Ethiopian Aviation Academy.

Do bacharelado - Biomedical EngineeringThis was an enriching part of my life. With in the five years I have spent in campus, I have gained a lot of social, educational and mental experiences. I was a very good student with an award winning final year project. I was always the first one to present things and I was a very interactive and confident student.

Mestrado - Biomedical Rehabilitation EngineeringMy post-graduate study is also another experience that I cherish. I have been in several projects with Instructors from all over the world expanding my understanding of international communication. I have been multi disciplinarily serving different aspects of the university and also had the pleasure of co-hosting a radio program. It was once again another amazing journey of my life.

Character Education InstructorIt is a once in a life time opportunity to be able to go back to the school that taught you and teach. Imagine your teachers being your colleagues. This was an amazing experience truly. I taught students ranging from 7 to 15 years old. It was just an amazing experience where I made sure that the students are well disciplined while learning English simultaneously. We had the words of the month that revolved around the moral of the month. We did stories, dramas and debates and it was so fruitful!

I just finished my fifth lesson with Rakeb and I feel confident in my ability to navigate basic conversations in Amharic. I wouldn’t have believed that possible a few weeks ago, but with Rakeb’s guidance and encouragement, I feel I’ve made a lot of progress. She is very kind, provides great material and always prepared. I highly recommend her!!
