Camila Murillo

Camila is exceptional. I have yet to meet a teacher as consistently pleasant and genuinely supportive as she is. In our very first class, she objectively assessed my level and offered some of the most valuable feedback I’ve ever received which was honest, clear, and motivating. She helped me understand that advancing in Spanish goes far beyond conversation; it requires reading, listening, and real immersion. Her classes are structured around readings in art, sociology, psychology, and philosophy, which she approaches with nuance and clarity. She sends materials in advance, gives detailed summaries afterward, and creates a space for thoughtful discussion that helps me grow linguistically and intellectually. I’m truly grateful for her guidance and her passion for teaching.

You want someone smart and knowledgeable? Check, check, check. I have had several lessons with her, so I'm not just going on first impressions. I enjoy Camila's use of a short article (sent to me a few days before the class) to stimulate an interesting discussion during the class. She guides the discussion in a skillful way and makes grammatical corrections where necessary.

Camila is an excellent teacher who uses the TPRS (Teaching Proficiency through Reading and Storytelling) method, which makes learning both effective and enjoyable. In each lesson, I read a short story that’s perfectly suited to my level (comprehensible input). Camila then asks a variety of questions to ensure I fully understand the text and to help me practice forming sentences with plenty of support. Rather than focusing on grammar rules or vocabulary lists, we immerse ourselves in stories and meaningful conversation. I find this method incredibly effective—especially for beginners who may feel a bit nervous about speaking. Camila creates a relaxed, encouraging environment that makes it easy to build confidence and fluency. Highly recommended!
