I’m Liza, I’m your new Russian‑language teacher! I was born in Russia’s far‑north Murmansk Region, spent years studying and working in vibrant Moscow, and have now settled in Tel Aviv – ginger cat in tow (he’s already mastered lounging in the Middle‑Eastern sun). Outside the classroom you’ll usually find me soaking up art exhibitions, experimenting in the kitchen, or planning my next trip to explore a new culture. I look forward to sharing language, stories, and a lot of curiosity with you this term.

That was a super fun lesson with Liza! We did some serious language nerding but kept it light. First, we matched funny dog memes to phrases like "Привет" (Hi) and "Дела – ужасно!" (Things are terrible!). The dog sitting among the mess perfectly taught me how to say I'm having a rough day. 😂 Then, we dove into sounds. The biggest shock was the O-to-A rule (vowel reduction). If O isn't stressed, it turns into an A sound. That’s why хорошо́ (good) is pronounced kharashó, not horosho. It's like the unstressed vowels get lazy! We also looked at how vowels soften consonants: Hard Vowels: а, о, у, ы, э (Keep the sound tough) Soft Vowels: я, ё, ю, и, е (Make the consonant before them soft/squishy) Learning these simple sound tricks makes reading so much easier. It feels like I cracked a secret code today! Thanks, Liza!

Liza delivered an excellent lesson with high-quality, self-made materials. Her teaching style is very engaging and structured, which made it easy to follow along. She used reading exercises and practical phrases for introductions, and also guided me in forming sentences—even though that part was challenging for me. What stood out most was the positive energy she brings to the class. The atmosphere she creates removes the usual embarrassment that comes with learning a new language, making it a comfortable and enjoyable experience. I even received some homework to reinforce what we learned, which shows her commitment to a structured curriculum. I’m looking forward to the next lesson!
