Hi guys! My name’s Ciaran and I’m a professional English teacher. I'm also a professional translator (Rus-Eng, Fr-Eng, It-Eng), subtitler, and proofreader, so feel free to contact me if you need a document translated or proofread. I don't bite! :P

My lessons are informal and focus on conversation. The best way to learn a language is to practise it, so we’ll learn new words and phrases as they come up naturally. Forget about boring textbooks and dusty grammar books, I’ll teach you English the way it’s actually spoken! However, YOU are the one in control. If there are particular grammar points that confuse you, we'll use them in our lessons. If you enjoy reading and discussing articles, we can spend our lessons doing that. And if you want to make your English sound more natural, then I’ve got tons of slang and idioms ready and waiting for you! Just drop me a message so I know what to prepare for.

TEFL Certificate in Teaching English - TEFL UK - 2017This course involved a thorough study of English grammar, syntax and pronunciation, with particularly emphasis placed on how to teach this to non-native speakers.
This allowed me to take the knowledge I already had of languages like French and Russian and apply it to English.
The course also contained a substantial practical element, as I delivered several lessons to a small class of 10 students. It was through successful completion of this classroom element that I obtained my TEFL certificate.

Awarded with Distinction in Spoken French and Spoken Russian.
Subsidiary Subjects: Italian, Portuguese, Conversational Japanese. Gained A’s in all of these subjects.
My own study of languages has allowed me to better understand the problems that other people face when learning English. Through the study of these languages I have also increased my understanding of my own language, specifically grammar and pronunciation.

2019 - 2020
English TeacherI worked as an online English teacher for DaDaABC teaching English to Chinese children and teenagers.
I therefore already have experience teaching on an online platform, as well as with teaching people English with no other language to fall back on (I don't speak Chinese).
This allowed me to become very adaptable with my lessons, as children's attention can wander very quickly and I had to constantly think on my feet and improvise to deliver interesting, fun lessons.
2018 - 2020
Foreign Languages TutorI worked as a language tutor, both online and in person, teaching British people French, Italian and Russian. All of my students had varying levels of language ability when they started learning with me.
Through this, I have a lot of experience creating interesting, effective lessons to improve students' language skills.
This also allowed me to refine my feedback skills, so that I am now able to give pertinent constructive criticism when and where appropriate.
2015 - 2016
English Conversational Tutor (Voluntary)I taught a group of Russian students and adults conversational English on a voluntary basis.
This gave me a good insight into the particular problems that adults can encounter when learning a foreign language.
I also developed my skills for accent reduction - many of the Russians in the group (particularly the older ones) had very strong accents in English that hindered comprehension. Through repetition and encouraging feedback, I helped them to soften their accents in English.
