Hi, I'm Alan. I am a CELTA qualified English teacher originally from the UK, with 15 years of teaching experience. I enjoy reading, swimming and walking my dog. I have travelled to many countries, but now I am settled and enjoying married life. I love chatting about current affairs, politics, economics, football, music, books and so on. As a teacher, I try to personalise my lessons as much as possible so that you learn what you need to, not what I want to teach you. I am really familiar with IELTS, FCE, CAE, and CPE, for example, so we will start with a mock test, so I can find out your strengths and weaknesses, then work hard to build on your strengths and improve your weaknesses. This usually works very well with some successful strategies I have. For conversation or business lessons, we choose topics that are relevant to you, whether it is about problems you have speaking in meetings, or just talking fluently with good pronunciation. As well as interviews for university entrance or jobs and test preparation, I can help you with a huge range of conversation skills including business English role plays, chatting about a topic, small talk, discussing the news, or changing your accent or pronunciation. I will push you to improve and argue with you to try to get you to say more, and as I said before, the more you know what you want to achieve, the easier it is for me to design personalised lessons for you. Although I am happy to practice conversation or improve pronunciation, really knowing what you need will improve your English faster, and make the lessons more fulfilling for me too. Alan is a fantastic teacher! I need help to improve both speaking and writing because I want to take the CAE as soon as I can. While I was searching for a teacher on Italki I luckily found somebody who is patient, adaptable and professional. His lessons are effective and goal-driven. He is keen to hear what your problems with English are and to develop a personalised plan of action to solve all of them, one by one. Highly recommended!!!

If you are looking for IELTS speaking practice, Alan is perfectly suited for it. I had intensive practice (for now 5 classes) with him and in each class, I've learned something new. He also gives you feedback about your performance, points out your weaknesses, and how to overcome them. I highly recommend him!
