My journey as an English teacher began when overseas clients asked me to help them with pronunciation. They told me they’d studied English for years, but had never spoken it with a native speaker.
What started as a casual meetup at a Starbucks café quickly evolved into a weekly class, and that’s where my teaching style was developed.
I specialise in helping students sound natural and confident—like a native speaker. My lessons focus on pronunciation, rhythm, and intonation, using proven techniques to train both the tongue and the brain to overcome common challenges.

My lessons typically begin with a relaxed conversation about what’s happening in your life.
From there, we might look at a short news article or a real-life text to read aloud and discuss. We’ll focus on how it’s presented, written, and spoken—building vocabulary, comprehension, and confidence.
Next, we’ll work on pronunciation: identifying useful phrases or word groups and practising how they flow naturally in connected speech.
A typical session lasts between 40 to 60 minutes, depending on the depth of our conversation.

Ian's advice and techniques changed my speech and my text to sound like a stress-timed English from a robotic syllable-timed Japanese. Many thanks for showing me how to break down text and when to pause and stress some words.
