Joshua is a great teacher! Learning a new language can be frustrating at times. Especially if you learn a language that is so very different from your own. I have done more than 150 lessons with him now. I can see progress. He knows where I need his help the most. The lessons are curated in a way that supports my style of learning. I am very greatful! Without him learning Mandarin would be impossible! Thank you!

Another excellent lesson with 高老师! I have learned Chinese in China and overseas, and I have never previously had a teacher who makes learning as pleasant and enjoyable as Gao Laoshi. He's always able to push you a little outside of your comfort zone, but never so much that you lose sight of the conversation. This week we discussed pickling vegetables, our different neighbourhoods, suburbia and Halloween. Cannot recommend highly enough!

Joshua is a great teacher! His vast career and life experiences make him a great conversationalist, and he is very patient, encouraging, and quick to parse out what you are trying to convey even when you aren't sure of how to say it. I'm looking forward to my next lesson with him!

I have been studying Chinese regularly with Joshua for a few months now and have benefited greatly through his teaching. He is both professional as a teacher and deft a conversationalist, which makes lessons the pleasant combination of being useful, informative and fun. He is very well read, having both interest and knowledge in varied conversational topics ranging from current affairs and politics to literature, film and religion, and I can reliably count on him being genuinely interested in discussing whatever I might bring up. His high level of proficiency in English is also a big help in enabling him to understand and piece together the thoughts I might be trying to convey, and then construct a more natural chinese expression. I cannot give a higher commendation of this teacher to anyone who is keen on learning Chinese or improving their conversational ability.

Had a very enjoyable session. Learnt many new words, and he patiently helped me better phrase what I was trying to say in a more natural way. He is patient with students and has a nice sense of humour and kept the conversation flowing.

Another great lesson. Joshua is very smart and well-read, and he makes for a great casual conversation partner while still dedicating lots of time to helping you learn vocabulary, pronunciation, and grammar.
