Certified TEFL English teacher, Certified in TEFL Business English, and Author of thirteen books! I am originally from New York City and was educated in New England at Northfield Mount Hermon School, Brown University, and the Rhode Island School of Design, where I earned both BFA and MFA degrees. I have been an international English tutor for many years and have worked exclusively online since 2015. I hold professional certifications in TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) and CTBE (Business English) from ITTT. I currently live in Indonesia with my Chinese-Indonesian wife, our two dogs, and extended family nearby. In addition to teaching, I am an active writer and painter, and I enjoy thoughtful conversation, cultural exchange, and helping students express themselves clearly and I have over thirty years of experience as an international teacher. I am a lifelong leraner and I do my best to pass that love of learning on to my students. Some students have been with me for over eight years. Advanced students benefit from discussions about many topics. Recently I have started discussing essays from the Atlantic Monthly, The New Yorker, The New York Review of Books, and The New York Times. I explain the vocabulary and the meaning the writer is communicating. My interest is in creating a continuing online friendship with advanced students. It is valuable for both of us!
