Hi, my name is Yan, and I’m from Shenyang, China. Right now, I’m working as a freelance translator and doing my PhD in Tokyo. My native language is Chinese, but I also speak Japanese fluently and English as my third language.
Before moving fully into academia, I worked as a business consultant for about 5 years. I’ve been living in Japan for more than 12 years now, so I’ve come to know a lot about Japanese society and culture.
Outside of work and study, I love reading books, watching Japanese anime and movies, and spending time with pets. I also try to grow plants, though honestly, I’m more of a “plant killer” than a green thumb:)!

This was a great first lesson! The conversation with Yan was smooth and she is easy to talk to. She pointed out pronunciation and vocabulary errors I made for me to review. Look forward for the next lesson
