Very helpful with clear examples and explanations. Learning Japanese in a college class only hit the surface of grammar but I was helped with adding more depth to some of the particles and sentence structure. Very helpful and engaging lesson! Thank you!

Taking Japanese classes through school felt like passing the class was the main focus rather than learning Japanese. I felt more comfortable and less pressured to make mistakes and understand some simple grammar points better. I’ve had calls in my class that felt pressured if I didn’t know that weeks information and with a fast paced class, its easy to be overwhelmed. Overall, this lesson helped out with my confidence and felt like I was aiming to learn more through my mistakes rather than stress about getting a bad grade. Thank you!
The lesson was amazing. He was very knowledgeable on what grammar and practice lessons I needed for the problems I specifically had. My Japanese is all over the place because I self taught myself and he was able to condense what I was missing into the lesson which is very important for learners like myself. The lesson was enjoyable and highly remarkable compared to constantly watching for random material by myself so having a tutor 1 on 1 was perfect.

Ray was very friendly and made me feel comfortable trying to speak Japanese. The trial lesson used graded reading material and shadowing-style practice. I liked that he kept things mostly in Japanese while still making it approachable. It was a positive first lesson, and I'd be interested to see more of his teaching style.
I can see his experience in making comprehensible input material in the way he teaches. Given that's where I first saw him as a teacher it made sense haha.

I've had 6 conversation practice sessions with Ray now and I really enjoy talking to him. He is friendly, speaks at a pace that matches my beginner level, and is very patient as I try my best to speak. His English is excellent, so if I struggle with how to say something we can temporarily switch to English and back to get me unstuck. The most important thing for me is that with a combination of talking to Ray and practicing short monologues by myself, I am overcoming my speaking anxiety and noticing real improvements in my ability to express myself.
