Portuguese Vocabulary From the World of Finance

A company. It can refers to both private or public companies, but used like this, usually refers to the private ones. When refering to a public company it probably will be used a specification, like "empresa pública".

An institution or person financial profits.

The production. It can refers to the production of either a single company or an entire country.

The cost. Used specifically to money cost in the financial context, but it can mean other types of cost in other contexts.

A debt. Brazil's external/foreign debt, for example, is referred by media as "dívida externa".

A stock. Specific for the stock market. The plural of "ação" is "ações".

A stock exchange. The complete name is "bolsa de valores", but is often shortened. New York Stock Exchange, for example, is called "Bolsa de Nova Iorque", while the São Paulo Stock Exchange is "Bolsa de São Paulo".

A currency. Real is the "moeda" in Brazil, while Dollar is the "moeda" in the United States. The same word is used to refer to a coin, so a 10 cents coin will be called a "moeda de 10 centavos".
