Hi there, my name is Wilma, an authentic Hong Kong local. Currently, I am living in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. I consider myself a global citizen because I have been living in different countries and still searching for the right place for me to settle in.
I love traveling and meeting new people. So far, I have already traveled to more than 15 countries. Knowing new cultures has always been fascinating to me. So join my class and tell me more about you and your culture! I myself am also learning German and Polish, therefore, I know a way to learn a language in an effective and efficient way.Me as a Teacher
Since 2012, I have been giving language classes to all ages (from children to adults). These experiences allow me to understand the difficulties of my students and help them in a systematic way.
From the beginning, I will try to evaluate my students' language level and customize a learning plan for my students. This learning plan will not only focus on speaking but also grammar, reading, listening, and vocabularies construction. It is because I believe that to be able to communicate and be understood by the other cannot only rely on speaking itself.
I consider myself an encouraging, patient, understanding, and flexible teacher. Your learning needs are my greatest concern.My lessons & teaching style
My class is not going to be dull, instead, I wish there are interactions between me and you. You will be given countless chances to speak. My job is to boost your confidence by letting you speak as much as you can.
And my teaching style can be extremely flexible and catering to your needs. We can also utilize different materials (e.g. videos, music, books, flashcards) to facilitate your learning process.
I want my student to be able to speak in a safe and comfortable environment. Making mistakes is completely, totally fine. And I will make a summary of your mistakes during and after class without interfering you.My teaching material

Wilma is fantastic - I've been working with her a couple years already. I am a native Cantonese speaker born to an immigrant family. I am bilingual but not biliterate. Wilma is great because not only does she know written Chinese, she knows jyutping too which is really what I was looking for in a teacher since my goal is to learn jyutping first.
Next, Wilma is very adaptable and mixes up our lessons from vocab, to demo/feedback, to free flow conversation. I think she's fantastic and welcome anyone else to partner with her!

I have taken 6 classes with Wilma, and think she’s good in many ways.
Her linguistic knowledge is solid and she often comes up with examples from real-life context which I can relate to.
Our classes were well customized and mostly carried out in Mandarin and Cantonese. Wilma would also clarify things in English as needed. She shows an understanding of the culture differences between HK and China, as well as the culture gap between the West and the East.
Wilma is an observer, for she detects your mistakes and helps you find a pattern naturally. But she can also be encouraging and keeps you going.

I had another fun lesson with Wilma! She's the kind of teacher that makes lessons relatable; I'm learning characters and asked to learn food items. Wilma went out of her way, not only to teach the characters for food, but to get different kinds of menus for me to use throughout the lesson. She has challenged me to place an order (by reading the menu) the next time we meet. I left the lesson having learned something new, I had fun, and I'm looking forward to the next.

I just had my first lesson with Wilma. I wanted her to teach me how to say some things in Cantonese (instead of going through lesson plans) and she was more than happy to oblige! She's very flexible and approachable. The lesson felt like a casual conversation more than anything (probably because we weren't going through lesson plans) and it was awesome! I loved it. I would definitely recommend her and I'll probably have lessons with her again in the future.
