In English you add an "s" to almost everything: books, trees, three books, two cups. English speakers bring that habit straight into Malayalam and say things like മൂന്ന് പുസ്തകങ്ങൾ (moonnu pusthakangal) = three books, for every count, every time. It is not wrong, but at home people usually say മൂന്ന് പുസ്തകം (moonnu pusthakam) = three books, because the number already tells you there is more than one.
