Souricette a trouvé un morceau de fromage derrière un meuble. Elle le grignote, installée sur la table de la cuisine. Tout à coup, elle entend une petite voix crier :
- Que fais-tu là, Souricette ? Tu veux bien lâcher ce fromage ou j’appelle le chat !
Souricette court se réfugier dans son trou, et tremble de peur. Elle pointe son museau pour voir qui a parlé… C’est Jacquot, le perroquet ! Il a voulu lui faire une farce et se balance en chantant sur son perchoir.
- C’est malin, dit Souricette, j’ai perdu mon fromage!
- Mais non, répond Jacquot, il est ici, près de ma cage. Viens, nous allons bavarder tous les deux. Tu pourras manger tranquillement. Nous ne parlerons pas du chat, c’est promis.
