 Ця історія трапилася зі мною, коли я працювала репетитором. Репетитор – це вчитель, який дає приватні уроки учням або студентам, допомагаючи їм покращити знання, отримані у школі чи в університеті. Я давала приватні уроки математики та фізики для школярів. Зазвичай, я проводила уроки ввечері після моєї основної роботи і приїжджала до учнів додому.
Того дня, коли трапилася ця кумедна історія, я давала урок одному з моїх учнів, який мав двох білих пухнатих котів. Після закінчення уроку я їхала додому міським автобусом. Коли я зайшла до автобуса, я підійшла до водія, щоб купити квиток, а коли я поверталася на своє місце я помітила, що інші пасажири якось дивно дивляться на мене. Це трохи нервує, коли ви помічаєте на собі зацікавлені погляди, чи не так? Одразу з’являється відчуття, що щось погане трапилося з вашим зовнішнім виглядом. І з моїм зовнішнім виглядом дійсно трапилося дещо погане. Що саме трапилося, я зрозуміла, коли вийшла з автобуса і змогла уважно оглянути себе. Я була одягнена в чорні штани з м’якої тканини і коли я подивилася на них, я побачила що мої штани на сідницях вкриті товстим шаром білої котячої шерсті. Я зрозуміла, що під час уроку я сиділа на улюбленому стільці котів. Я спробувала відчистити шерсть, але вона так міцно прилипла до тканини, що без щітки про це годі було й думати. Звичайно, я не мала з собою щітки для одягу і щоб доїхати додому я мала сісти ще в один автобус. На моє щастя, на вулиці було вже темно, а пасажирів в автобусі було мало. Згораючи від сорому, я зайшла в автобус, намагаючись не повертатися до людей спиною. Після цього я завжди уважно оглядала стілець, перед тим як сісти на нього.

Llegó el mes de diciembre y con él las tradicionales posadas, festividades que inundan de alegría y en donde disfrutamos del sabor de los productos mexicanos.

Las posadas son fiestas populares que se celebran en México, durante los nueve días antes de la Nochebuena. Según los relatos tradicionales, José, acompañado de su esposa María, caminaron desde Nazaret a Belem hasta arribar a su destino. Al llegar, la Virgen estaba a punto de dar a luz a su hijo Jesús, y al buscar alojamiento fueron rechazados en no pocos hogares, entonces terminaron refugiándose en un establo. Este pasaje es conocido ahora como Las Posadas.

En la actualidad las posadas en los hogares mexicanos inicia cuando los anfitriones representan a los hosteleros y los invitados a los peregrinos, quienes piden alojo al entonar la letanía para pedir posada, que concluye con el famoso estribillo: “Entren santos peregrinos, peregrinos, reciban este rincón. Y aunque es pobre la morada, la morada, os la doy de corazón”.

Finalmente se ofrece a todos los invitados una pequeña cena y se rompen piñatas, además no pueden faltar los aguinaldos, los buñuelos, las luces de bengala y por supuesto el delicioso ponche.

Esta tradicional bebida, se elabora principalmente con frutas propias de esta temporada, tejocotes, guayaba, ciruelas pasas, manzanas amarillas, cañas de azúcar, tamarindo pelado, jamaica, piloncillo y azúcar, que hervido todo nos permite disfrutar del más clásico sabor de la Navidad en México.

Estas fiestas inundan los hogares con dulces aromas y sabores del campo mexicano, que están presentes en todos y cada uno de los alimentos que distinguen esta bella temporada.

Clara, a brilliant data analyst with a mind for numbers, walked into my office looking like a storm cloud. Networking events were her kryptonite. "I freeze up," she confessed, "Small talk? Forget it! I just stand there awkwardly, feeling like a total outsider."

Clara's shyness was hindering her career. Her analytical skills were top-notch, but promotions often went to colleagues who could "schmooze" with decision-makers. I knew I could help.

Our first step was reframing networking. Instead of a dreaded chore, we saw it as an opportunity to connect with people who shared her passion for data. We practiced "elevator pitches" - concise introductions highlighting her expertise. We focused on open-ended questions, like "What's the biggest data challenge you're facing?" to spark engaging conversations.

Next, we tackled the "shy freeze." Role-playing helped Clara practice making eye contact, smiling warmly, and using active listening techniques like nodding and acknowledging what the other person said. We even practiced "exit strategies" - polite ways to excuse herself from a conversation when she felt overwhelmed.

The turning point came when I suggested Clara volunteer at a data analysis conference.  She'd be interacting with people who shared her interests, but in a less intimidating setting.  It worked! Clara's passion for data analysis shone through, and she ended up having stimulating conversations with attendees.

The next networking event was a different story. Armed with her practiced pitch and newfound confidence, Clara actively approached people, discussed data trends, and even shared a few insights herself. She even left with a business card from a potential mentor!

Today, Clara is a networking pro.  She still gets nervous, but she no longer lets shyness hold her back.  Clara's story proves that anyone can become a confident networker with the right tools and a supportive coach.
