Anıtkabir ("memorial tomb") is the mauseloum of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the leader of the Turkish War of Independence and the founder and first President of the Republic of Turkey.
The tomb is located in Ankara and was designed by the architects, Professor Emin Onat and Assistant Professor Ahmet Orhan Arda. Their proposal beat forty eight other entries, from several countries, in a competition held in 1941 by the Turkish Government in 1941. The competition was to design a monumental tomb for Atatürk.
