Anıtkabir (literally, "memorial tomb") is the mauseloum of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the leader of the Turkish War of Independence and the founder and first President of the Republic of Turkey. It is located in Ankara and was designed by architects Professor Emin Onat and Assistant Professor Ahmet Orhan Arda, whose proposal beat 48 other entries from several countries in a competition held by the Turkish Government in 1941 for a "monumental tomb" for Atatürk.

Their proposal beat forty eight other entries, from several countries, in a competition held in 1941 by the Turkish Government in 1941. The competition was to design a monumental tomb for Atatürk.
I found the story of Ataturk very interesting. I read about it when I was last on holiday in Turkey. I also had two Turkish girls in my German class and it was interesting to learn that Turkish women once had more freedom and education than some people would like them to have these days. They said that the people who stay in Turkey were more modern in their thinking than the Turkish who now live in Germany. I wonder if this is true.
