Have you ever heard of "Cloud seeding" before? It's technology that it rains artificially. I haven't heard of it before. I came across an article online about the heavy rain in Dubai and I saw the technology in the article for the first time. It sprays substances as seeds for raindrops artificially with aircrafts, balloons, smoke candles and missiles. Then, it makes cloud drops grown up to raindrops. It uses different kinds of seed substances depending on cold rain clouds or warm ones. In the case of cold rain clouds, the substances use dry ices and silver iodides. In the case of warm ones, they use hygroscopic particles such as salts to collect raindrops. The current technology has an effect only on clouds that the seeding makes it rain. That's why it can increase rainfall during the rainy season, but it can't make it rain during dry season. On the other hand, a lack of water due to drought affects agricultural products. The technology has attracted a lot of attention lately as countermeasures for this kinds of problems. United Arab Emirates[UAE] with the annual rainfall of less than 100mm conducts cloud seeding on a daily basis. It has done over 200 times so far. Mexico has already conducted verification test and succeeded in increasing rainfall by 45 percent. If the technology rolls out across the world in the future, I believe we will ensure a stable supply of foods and also will have very little concern with a lack of food and water.
