Why is “adjusted” incorrect in “The team is adjusted to the former director”?

'Adjust' describes an action which changes a state. First, the team was not used to / not accustomed to the former director. This was the original state. Then they adjusted. This was an action or process. Then the is used to / accustomed to him/her. This is the new state.
