I first discovered the Malaysian girl trio De Fam through their 2019 single “That Sephora Girl” on Youtube. This song was really catchy, and the band reminded me of a mixture of Destiny’s Child and the J-pop band Perfume! How come I didn’t know about this amazing group? 😭 I guess the world is too big. 🌎 Anyway, I think they are really cool and want you to learn about this unique band! De Fam started out their career as backup dancers for numerous Malaysian singers such as Siti Nurhaliza, Stacy and SonaOne. Then, in 2014, they uploaded a cover of Iggy Azalea’s hit “Black Widow” and lit up the internet. As a result of this sensational video, the trio even signed a deal with the producer Adib Khalid and joined his music label, Tune Studios. After joining Tune Studios, De Fam released their biggest hit song “#SUPERGIRLS,” an upbeat EDM trap tune, in 2015 and attracted nearly 2 million views within three months of its release. (This song is really good. I even think that it’s better than many tracks that came out around that time.)  Since then, the three-member group has released “With You,” “Bila Ada Kamu” and “Hot” alongside many covers. According to Wikipedia, Malaysian listeners consider De Fam the face of the Malaysian girl bands, who succeed the legendary groups such as Feminin, Elite and Freshies. As I said at the very beginning, De Fam presents a unique team color reminiscent of both the R&B influenced band Destiny Child and the synthpop-based band Perfume. On top of that, their singing and dancing skills are top-notch. But they don’t seem to get the attention they deserve :( Considering that there are one of few trios that currently exist, I think De Fam deserves more recognition. And I believe that their music will eventually attract people. (They’ve only released four or five singles in the five years of their career. They need to release more songs!) This is it!
