What's the American English word for "dodgy"?
Eg.
This place is dodgy, let's get out of here
This phone is dodgy, don't use it
thanks

Maybe 'sketchy' for places.

GuideDogSaint has a good answer for places. (And "sketchy" sort of implies a possibility of hidden danger, so you could also use it for something like a computer app that you think might contain spyware, for example.)
I don't think American English really has a good word for describing objects that are "dodgy." In casual speech, I could picture someone saying that a phone is "acting up," "not working right," "broken," "being weird," or "on the fritz," or just saying "There's something wrong with this phone. Don't use it." But the description would depend on what kind of object you're talking about and what's "dodgy" about it.

Yeah, GuideDigSaint is right.
Sketchy.
For objects that are not functioning, we have a funny expression.
We sometimes say, "The ________ is on the fritz."
LIke, "My tv is on the fritz."
It is old, but you still hear it sometimes.
It makes me laugh.
I think it has something to do with Germany, because of the name "Fritz."
