Profesyonel Öğretmen✨ Today’s Japanese Tip ✨
When Japanese speakers hear that something good happened to you, we say 「よかった!」 — literally “It was good!” Yes, past tense. Because in Japanese, we’re celebrating that the good thing has already happened. 🎉
But in English, people say “That’s good!”, not “That was good,” even if the event is in the past. English likes to keep good vibes in the present. 😎✨
So think of it like this:
Japanese: “Yay, your good news already arrived! Past tense!”
English: “Yay, the good mood is happening now! Present tense!”
Different languages, different vibes. Both happy. 💛
