When you are still at the beginning stages of learning a new language it is important to build a strong foundation of vocabulary and basic grammar. From there I would recommend searching for what are called "graded readers". Graded readers are stories that are designed for language learners that use vocabulary and grammar that are suitable for your level.

Chinese and English are very different that’s why it’s not as simple as translating literally, keep going, you got this 😉

Do not try to use translate apps, listen podcast with subtitles in English then write the word that you don't know and search the meaning in Chinese, I do that ,that helps me to know new vocabulary. Best regards.
