Hi s8t2, Yes, it's correct. An easy way to figure out if it's correct is to reduce the sentence to its subject & predicate. Then you get: Bart was (etc) and followed (etc). Both predicates are in the simple past. It's the comma that's more troublesome ;) I hope this helps!
