It’s stormy today. Lightning is flashing in the pitch-dark sky and thunder is rumbling and crashing continually. Somehow, this weather has reminded me of the wet monsoon in Vietnam I studied a few days ago. Climate deeply affects how people live. In Vietnam, people live with floods. They build their houses on stilts and grow rice during the wet season. In the dry season, the Mekong River dries up, and salty water flows in from the sea. Rice can’t grow in salty water. Farmers turn their rice paddies into shrimp farms. After I learned all those things, storms are not that scary anymore. After all, they could be a sort of natural resource and some people are happy living with them.
