I know that “trans” means change and “mute” means no sound, but when these two comes together, we get “transmute”, which means altering in form! it seems that the “mute” part is suppressed?

I think "mute", in this case, is from "mutation"!!

The "mute" comes from the Latin verb meaning "to change."
