How NOT to write a notebook: tips to encourage corrections!

Is nobody correcting your notebooks? Make sure you don't make these mistakes:

1. Too short, or too long: Aim for one or two paragraphs. If you write one sentence, it's just not interesting enough to correct. If you write a whole essay, it takes too much time to correct. If you really want to write something long, post it in two parts!

2. Too many mistakes: Everyone makes mistakes, but make sure you reread everything 5-10 times, youll be surprised how many silly mistakes you find. check your capital letters, i hate it when people forget that ;-)

Also remember: most native speakers hate gonna / gotta / wanna / cos / u (instead of "you") These words are only OK in a cellphone txt message!

3. Too few mistakes: Occasionally an advanced learner will just write about their day, and make only one tiny mistake in their notebook. If your English is advanced, why not try a complex philosophical or social topic, or translating something from your language?

4. No "thank you" message! :( Please remember: whoever's marked your diary has done a favour for a complete stranger, make sure you leave a "thank you" message! Simply upvoting isn't enough. I'm much more likely to correct someone who I know is polite than someone I know is ungrateful.

Let me post a short little comment thanking you for letting us learners know what you think we should avoid. Given that the whole world wants to learn English and there are simply not enough native speakers of English to go around and as a result of that, we have roughly 30% of uncorrected notebook entries written in English here on italki (at least that was the case last time I checked), a thread like this might actually help us get more entries corrected and get us better equipped to fight the odds. Cheers! :D

Note: I was only going to give you a thumbs-up and be on my way, but then I changed my mind after thinking twice on the importance of showing appreciation in your message.

This is a good article, in fact it has reminded me to rethink my behaviours on this website ,I appreciate that all things that could make me do better( no mater in languages learning or in making others feel comfortable). 好吧,至少对我来说是这样的,也希望更多的人看到它!

谢谢你!祝你愉快~

Excellent points as ingratitude is one human trait I can't abide by - nobody owes anybody anything, if someone takes time out of their day to give you a hand, a simple thank you so much goes a very long way, with me anyhow.

As for length, when I see two paragraphs, I move on, as I like to help as many as I can daily.
