Looking for books like Werther, Goethe, any suggestions?

Books that the character commits suicide and also brings interesting reflexions as this fragment “The human race is a monotonous affair. Most people spend the greatest part of their time working in order to live, and what little freedom remains so fills them with fear that they seek out any and every means to be rid of it.”

It can be in french, english, german literature as the main languages I want to learn but also other languages if I can find a english translation...

With regard to German literature, I'd recommend Adalbert Stifter's Bunte Steine. Also, Dostoevsky's Crime and Punishment, although not German literature, is a fine psychological and existentialist novel as well.

Rayuela - Julio Cortazar. In there the main character try to commit suicide and the plot is similar in some way to Werther.

Crime and Punishment - Dostoyevsky. The main character doesn't commit suicide, but the plot and the characters a very dense.

I recommend "Oh! A Mystery of Mono No Aware" by Todd Shimoda.  It was so deep and philosophical, by talking about it to friends, I ended up getting three of them to read it too.  In addition to it being a beautifully-made book, it is a captivating story and study into human emotions.  Mono no aware is an old Japanese poetry term that is very difficult to define.  Throughout the book they attempt (between every two chapters) to explain some of the concepts.  Meanwhile the main character searches for emotion and feeling in Japan.  He feels nothing in our empty society, emotionless, and this quest leads him into the Japanese suicide clubs.  His former student and mentor tries to save him. Poignant, deep, truly a moving book.

I would recommend you a book written by a Japanese author, I think it fits pretty much what you are looking for.

The English title is "No Longer Human" by Osamu Dazai

There is also a German translation, the title in German is "Gezeichnet"
