Which is the difference? Both means thank you?

They are same mean.
”ありがとう” is formal, "ありがと" is a little friendly expression.
But both are 90% same expression.

In some areas, dialect can dictate the length. In Kansai (Osaka/Kyoto) I hear ありがと more than the extended う
