30 min once a week or 1hr every 2 weeks? I'm able to afford either 30 min every week, or 1hr every 2 weeks, for a language tutor here.
My assumption is it's better to do the hour every 2 weeks, because a half hour seems too short, like we'd get through the homework and warming up and then it's over.
But maybe I'm wrong, and those of you who have tried the half hour lessons have insight I don't.
Please share your opinions with me :)

I would say that 30 mins is better, because in a gap of 2 weeks you forget. Also sometimes it's hard to concentrate for an hour. Most of my lessons are 45 minutes. It's the best length of time for a lesson in my opinion.

30 mins can be enough for some very specific practice on a particular objective, such as a speaking practice test with some feedback for example. Last year, in my preparations for the Spanish C2 exam I would study the vocabulary related to a particular topic and then call my Spanish teacher with questions, asking them to correct my sentences and provide answers to my doubts. Half an hour was just about enough time to allow for this and I never got bored...there was no time for that!

I would suggest you try to organise your own study, to some extent, so that when you have your lessons you are able to spend the maximum amount of time getting useful feedback and assistance. This will also help to minimize the amount of time spent on chatting and "how-was-your-week?"-style informal chat. Not that there's anything wrong with having informal lessons, but if you only have half an hour, I imagine you want it to be focused and productive. Hope this helps!
