A Queue Is What italki Needs
italki should create a queue where people can select a time slot at which they are available to do an exchange or to help someone else. It's like Tinder but for good people. That should reduce the "I am looking for...." traffic at least 1%.

I've been thinking about that for quite a long time now, it could be sort of like Tinder but exclusively for language exchange, you just set up yourself available and then get matched up with someone who also wants to practice the same language or is learning the one you speak (or vice-versa) you can then start chatting or do an audio/video call right away and then have the option to leave them feedback, might be a good idea for a standalone app.

I agree. Another way to phrase it is that non-teachers should be able to use the same scheduling tools as teachers.

Because is a great idea I googled and there is an app called Tandem that do that, so, if you are interested check it. By the way if you want to partner English/Spanish with me I am available at mornings/evening weekdays, this is my skype: [email protected]

Hi Val,
Like Dan quickly explains it, the scheduling tools are the same as a teacher. The additional layer, which I call the "queue", is where the users can publicize their availability. That way, a student can go to the "queue" and see who is available. Maybe a rating system is used to keep the naughty ones out.
Edit: Thanks Ash and Albert for your inputs.

Terecia,
Mentioning Tinder was only a joke.
I was thinking that a first-come, first-serve queue would allow people to be more available with their time, especially busy people. Technically, it shouldn't be that different from a teacher profile who offers an instant class.
