Simple Past vs Present Perfect - What's the difference?
Hello everyone :)
Hope you all are doing fantastic! :) Here's a little piece of advice on tenses - especially when to use the simple past and when to use present perfect. Consider the following two sentences :
<em>I spoke to her yesterday (simple past tense)</em>
<em>I have spoken to her. (present perfect tense)</em>
Both refer to actions performed in the past, so what's the difference?? In the first sentence (simple past) the timing of the action is important i.e. yesterday - with no effect on the present. However, in the second sentence (present perfect) timing is not the main focus - instead it is the effect it has on the present (<em>I have spoken to her, that is why she has come here to apologize NOW). </em>I hope these examples are clear and understandable, but most importantly, that they are useful! :))
Have a great day everyone!
