I went to a public school in Ohio. We didn't have uniforms.

Students do not wear uniforms at public schools in Canada.

In Germany, public schools don't have uniforms, so I never wore one and neither did my kids.

Our uniform was the same for every school in the country and was mandatory. Parents bought it to us at a store. Girls wore brown dresses with black aprons for every day and white aprons for celebrations. I had a few sets of removable cuffs and colars of white colour, lacy and plain ones. And we used to braid our hair for school using black and brown ribbons and bows. My mother didn't like the colour, and she asked my teacher a permission to braid my hair with pink, violet and red ribbons. The teacher was not happy with that and couldn't agree with red colour at all, but my mother broke the school rules a bit, and I was wearing colourful bows, one in our class.

Boys wore blue trousers and blue jackets. They had short jackets with many buttons at a primary and secondary school and longer jackets with fewer buttons at a high school.

When I was in a secondary school, girl's uniform was acknowledged as obsolete and a new one was designed. We got blue skirts and blue jackets.
