Hmmm...what I was trying to say is something like this:
When I was young, my parents had a big garden with tomatoes, green beans, peas, squash, watermelon, corn, and peppers. I really liked that garden, but now I don't have a garden where I live. Instead of a garden, I have three tomatoes and siz lettuce plants in pots. Some day, I'd like to have a big garden again. Do you have a garden, now or in the past? What do you grow, or what would you like to grow?
Maybe I should stick to English for now :( ...thanks for the help everyone.
The rest of the sentence is more or less consistent. :-)
quand *j'étais* jeune...
and some of your phrasing seems a bit off but i'm not sure enough to correct it
...mes parents ont *eu* un jardin...
...au lieu *d'un* jardin... :)
