Italian Stereotype?

I hope no one takes this offensively, but I have a somewhat silly question;

Are people from Italy as friendly as portrayed on television and movies?

The Italians always seem like a fun, friendly, active bunch that is always willing to feed you. Is this necessarily true? Or is it some sort of complimentary stereotype?

I have some Italian heritage in my background, so I am curious about the actual culture.

Thanks for taking the time to read this! :D

Like on the Sopranos? :D

Some of us can be friendly, some of us in a snake oil salesman way, other are cold, but it also depends on what you look like, nowadays xenophobia is flaming up in Italy due to the illegal immigrants/refugees spike.

I heard several people saying that they found Italy more welcoming/warm than Spain.

Yeah many of us associate food with family and friendship, there's an element of hedonism in how we deal with food, but in a solidary way.

@Berze; thank you very much! I understand that Italians are just as human as the rest of us, but I wanted to know a bit of an Italian person's personal opinion. :)

@Ben; you are right, but the news does not entirely refelect how the people may feel. I honestly hope people don't judge Americans from our news reports.... Ugh. /)__<

Thank you for your comment!

Read Italian political news, too, when you are not watching TV or movies, and get to know Italy and Italians better.  Real life is important, too.  No?
