Diagnostic = identifying the problem areas (E.G. so that a decision can be made about the best strategy to remedy/ deal with these problem areas - choice of exercises, activities, etc.). Evaluation = checking/ assessing what level the student is now. (E.G. in order to place these students in the appropriate class, corresponding to their current level).
